C.P. Balasubramanian

Dr. C.P. Balasubramanian earned his BSc in Zoology from the University of Calicut, Kerala, in 1984, followed by an MSc in Zoology with a specialisation in Fish and Fisheries from the same university in 1986. He later obtained a PhD in Marine Sciences from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, in 1995.


After obtaining his doctoral degree in Marine Science with a focus on marine fisheries, Dr. Balasubramanian joined the Agricultural Research Service in 1993. Since 1994, he has been a dedicated researcher at ICAR-CIBA. Over the past 30 years, his research has focused on various aspects of brackishwater crustacean husbandry and management, with an emphasis on crustacean reproduction and seed production. His contributions in the field of Crustacean Research and Development have resulted in high-quality research publications and novel technologies, particularly in the areas of reproduction and captive breeding.


Throughout his research career, Dr. Balasubramanian has published 50 peer-reviewed articles, 8 book chapters, 15 popular articles, and several teaching materials. He has edited two books and served as a guest editor for an international journal. Additionally, he has been a member of the Annual Report editorial board of his institute for six years.


Dr. Balasubramanian has successfully guided two doctoral students to their PhDs and supervised eight MSc students for their dissertations. He has also trained one Post-Doctoral fellow and is currently supervising three doctoral students. He has organised several short-term training programs on shrimp and mud crab culture, contributing significantly to the development of aquaculture practices.
