K.K. Ramachandran

Dr. K.K. Ramachandran specialises in Remote Sensing, GIS, Geoinformatics, Coastal Zone Management, Marine Geology, Marine Sciences, and Environmental Science. He holds an M.Sc. in Marine Geology from Cochin University, graduating first in his class in 1982, and a Ph.D. in Marine Science from Cochin University of Science & Technology, completed in 1993. He served as a Scientist at the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, Thiruvananthapuram, from 1983 to 2020, leading the Coastal Processes and Atmospheric Process Groups from 2015 to 2020. As a consultant, he completed the Coastal Zone Management Plan for Kerala based on the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification 2019. He also worked as a GIS Expert for the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project and as a Project Manager in Riyadh, mapping the Environmental Sensitivity Index for the Arabian Gulf coast.

Notably, Dr. Ramachandran was Member Secretary of the Kerala State Council for Science Technology & Environment and the Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority, overseeing scientific and administrative functions of six R&D institutions. His expertise includes remote sensing, geo-informatics, coastal regulation zone mapping, cadastral mapping, and environmental sensitivity indexing. An invited speaker at numerous academic institutions, Dr. Ramachandran is a member of the Board of Studies at CUSAT and KUFOS, a fellow of several scientific academies, and has served on various committees, including the Kerala State Dam Safety Authority and the Shoreline Monitoring Committee of Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd.

He has published over 50 research papers in national and international journals and contributed to several books. Dr. Ramachandran has delivered keynote addresses and lead talks at numerous national and international seminars, conferences, and workshops.
