T.V. Sathianandan

Dr. T.V. Sathianandan holds a Master's Degree in Agricultural Statistics from Kerala Agricultural University (1984) and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Calicut (2002). Dr. Sathianandan began his career with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as an Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientist in 1989 and served in various capacities at ICAR-CMFRI, including as division head from 2010 to 2022.

Dr. Sathianandan's professional expertise encompasses fish stock biomass dynamics modeling and simulation, fish stock assessment, and fisheries management for sustainability. He is also skilled in multivariate statistical methods, univariate and multivariate time series modeling, database management, and machine learning. His proficiency in computer programming spans several languages, including C++, MATLAB, R, ADMB, WinBugs, and Python.

Under Dr. Sathianandan's leadership, the National Marine Fisheries Census was conducted in 2010 and 2015. Throughout his career, he has published 55 articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals, 34 technical articles, and 12 special publications. He has also presented research at over 50 national and international workshops and symposia.

Dr. Sathianandan has received several accolades for his work, including the Dr. PSBR James Memorial Award in 2020 for best digital presentation at the International Symposium on Marine Ecosystem Challenges and Opportunities-3, and the Dr. R. Reghu Prasad Memorial Award for best poster presentation at the International Symposium on Marine Ecosystem Challenges and Opportunities-2 in 2014.

Over his 33-year career at ICAR, Dr. Sathianandan has made significant contributions, such as leading the national-level sample survey for estimating marine fish landings in India for over 15 years, enhancing the marine fish landings estimation system to a micro-level and individual species level, and modernising the national marine fish landings data collection and analysis system through the use of electronic tablets and a centralised online system.
