Shaju Thomas

Dr. Shaju Thomas was an Associate Professor and Head of the Postgraduate Department of Zoology, Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, Kerala, India. He retired after 31 years of service in the college. He was a Member of the UG Core Committee and Board of Studies, and Chairman of the PG Board of Studies in Zoology (2010-13), Mahatma Gandhi University. He is a researcher and a recognised research guide of the university.

He has more than twenty five publications, ten books and six study reports. He was a US-AEP Fellow (1994), Rotary International Scholar (2000), and he represented India at the “UN – REDD Global Consultation (2008)” in Baguio City, Philippines. Attended and presented papers in several National and International Conferences on environmental education, conservation and environmental policy. Dr. Shaju was a Senior Writer Fellow of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (2014-16). During the fellowship, he has authored two books, both published by the state institute of languages.  In 2016 he presented a paper at the UNESCO -World Heritage Committee meeting in Istanbul, Turkey on the Western Ghats Natural World Heritage Site and in 2018 he attended the Earth System Governance (ESG) Conference in the Netherlands hosted by Utrecht University, and contributed to the deliberations.

He is a Senior Earth System Fellow of the IHDP and a Member of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CE&C). He is reviewer of APN and IUCN and he contributes scholarly articles for the print media. He is interested in EE, Ecological history, environmental policy and sustainability. He is a consultant to Dept. of Forest, Govt. of Kerala and Kerala State Biodiversity Board.
