Dr. Shyam S Salim has over 25 years of research and development on marine fisheries economics, domestic marketing and international trade, climate change impacts on fisheries and fishers, socio-economics, livelihood analysis, fisheries management and policy research. Collaborating and expanding networks within and outside the institute for supporting and implementing country-level fisheries management and fisher’s welfare actions and initiatives. Adept in survey design, tools development, and implementation, data analysis, progress reporting, report writing, presentations, project control, policy dialogue, representing CMFRI in various forums, internally and externally, and supporting resource mobilization. Initiated meaningful consultations and substantial efforts in attracting external funds through collaborative research and development projects with FAO, Belmont Forum, AISRF, IIFET, CSIRO and MSU . Substantial efforts and accolades in empowering women, stakeholder’s benefits, developing the Indian fish market grid/ Fish marketing and price information system for better marketing efficiency, methodological tools for assessing the vulnerability of coastal household’s consequent to climate change among many. Present works of importance include policy initiatives on fisheries management, climate-resilient adaptation and mitigation plan, economic efficiency assessment, livelihoods and value chain interventions, deducing demand and supply relationship and fisher empowerment with special emphasis on women. Completed over 60 national and international projects well supported by more than 380 publications.
